Alison studies the causes and consequences of power and influence in organisations, as well as conflict resolution, negotiation, verbal and nonverbal communication. As an organisational psychologist and expert in human behaviour, her aim is always to help smart people become ‘people smart’.
An award-winning teacher, Alison teaches courses on effective leadership and negotiation skills to undergraduates, graduate students and executives. She has taught, or consulted, on leadership and negotiation for executives in numerous organisations, including ExxonMobil, Bayer, Eastman, the National Multi-Housing Council, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy and many more. Alison is also the author of the forthcoming book Likeable Badass: How Women Get the Success they Deserve.
Her research has appeared in the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes, as well as the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
She’s also spent time as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company, Inc. as well as advising numerous companies in the automotive and financial services industries on issues of corporate strategy and change management.
Alison received her PhD in organisational behaviour from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and her BA in mathematics and economics from Dartmouth, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
